Youth Basketball

The Waldo County YMCA offer basketball programs for youth in grades K-6. YMCA youth basketball programs focus on teaching players the skills of the game in a safe and supportive environment. We offer several different opportunities to meet the needs of all players. Throughout the year we offer Recreational Basketball (House Basketball), Travel Basketball, and youth basketball clinics.

K-2 Coed Basketball

K-2 basketball will focus on learning the game, skills development, and having fun. Practices begin in November, and they practice 1-2x per week at the WCY gym or other local facilities.

House Basketball

House basketball is recreational. This level is for those who are new to the sport, or who are not ready or do not want to commit to travel basketball. Players play games against other local rec level teams. Practices begin in November and they practice 2x per week at the WCY gym or other local facilities. House basketball is open to all youth in grades 3-6. Depending on number of registrations, teams may be coed and mixed grade.

Travel Basketball

Our travel basketball teams are part of the Eastern Maine Basketball League. Level of play is competitive. Space is limited and players must try out. Travel basketball starts in October and practices 2 nights per week at either the Y gym or other local facilities. Parents are responsible for transportation to games, which are in the Bangor area. Uniforms are included in the fee and must be returned at the end of the season.

We offer teams in the following divisions:

3rd & 4th Grade Girls

3rd & 4th Grade Boys

5th & 6th Grade Girls

5th & 6th Grade Boys

Tournament Teams

If your child wishes to continue playing after the travel season ends, they may wish to join a tournament team. These teams will participate in 4 tournaments, including our own Lion’s Den Tournament in March. There is a separate fee for the tournament team, to cover associated costs. Teams begin practicing in February and practice 1x per week through March.

We offer teams in the following divisions:

3rd & 4th Grade Girls

3rd & 4th Grade Boys

5th & 6th Grade Girls
