Summer to Fall - Changes Happen

I hope you feel good about the changes at the WCY this summer. Lots of people commented on the new driveway and the new cardio equipment. (And, yes, we have asked for a replacement for the lemon treadmill.). People noticed the scrubbing that took place on the pool deck and in the pools themselves. I have heard positive comments about the new fan at the end of the hall and the new drinking fountain. And if you have a chance to see the floor in the preschool, it is sparkling as if it were new.
Much of what we did is hidden, but I want you to know about it, because, like in a family, what is happening below the surface matters. We replaced a pipe feeding the warm water therapy pool that had a crack in it. It sounds so simple when I write it in one sentence, but that took a plumber more than 15 hours and lots of new pipe. Mac Electric, our go-to electrical contractor, replaced the wires from the control boxes to each of the four motors powering pool pumps. Because the chlorinated water is corrosive and gets everywhere, it is a tough environment for metal. And I have come to understand that each completed job in the pool mechanical room leads to at least one more, which is why we are replacing the booster pump that powers the spa jets.
Some of the changes are more abstract. You will see our Little Learners Preschool children back in the WCY on the 2nd looking energetic and excited, as they do every September. What you won’t see is that we have partnered with RSU 71 to integrate our preschool with theirs. It has added ten more public preschool spots and supports our staff and program.
One change that will have a significant impact is that we are looking for a new Aquatics Director. Zach Blanchard, our current director, has been with the WCY for six years in numerous roles. He has, as one of my colleagues said, grown up here. Zach took his job seriously and, despite having given his notice, kept working right to the end. We are grateful for all that he has done and wish him the best in his future endeavors.
We are looking for a new Aquatics Director. If you know anyone who loves this community, likes the water, and is looking for a way to make a difference, please ask them to fill out an application. They could be the next member of our WCY family.
