Learning about Food and Money

Updated: Jun 29, 2022

In the last month, our preschool has learned about food and money, first in class, then on field trips.

Jen and Karen took the class to visit and help out at the Belfast Soup Kitchen. All reports were that the children were a hit!

With the help of Michelle Curtis and Niki Janczura from First National Bank, Jen added a hands on financial literacy component to the curriculum. They kept it simple, focusing on: What is money, the difference between “need” and “want”, and the importance of saving.

After presenting in the classroom at the WCY, the class took a trip to see the bank branch in Belfast. The children were impressed by the speed of the bill counter, the way vacuum tubes in the drive-through might fit a sub-sandwich, and the “many monies”.
