WCY's Diabetes Prevention Program Prevent T2
The Waldo County YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) Prevent T2 helps adults at high risk of developing type 2 diabetes reduce their risk by taking necessary steps to improve their health and wellbeing.

AM I AT RISK?
It’s possible. More than 86 million adults in the U.S. have prediabetes and only about 9 million are aware of it. Prediabetes increases the risk of type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and stroke. Take this quiz to learn if you are at risk for prediabetes and type 2 diabetes.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM
The YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program helps adults at high risk for developing type 2 diabetes adopt and maintain healthy lifestyles by eating healthier, increasing physical activity, and losing a modest amount of weight in order to reduce their chances of developing the disease. Research by the National Institutes of Health has shown that programs like the YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program can reduce the number of new cases of type 2 diabetes by 58%. The reduction is even greater, 71%, among adults aged 60 years or older.

HOW IT WORKS
The YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program is a year-long program. A trained Lifestyle Coach facilitates a small group of participants in a classroom setting. The supportive group works together to learn about healthier eating, physical activity, reducing stress, and other behavior changes.
