The Bluefish Swim Team is for children 5 years old - grade 12.  They practice each day in our lap pool from 3:00 - 6:15 p.m. Monday - Thursday and 3:00 - 5:30 p.m. Fridays from October to mid-March.  Practices are grouped by ability and are geared towards improving endurance, stroke technique, and promote a healthy lifestyle. We compete against other YMCA swim teams both at home and away and hope for all swimmers to participate in the state meet, hosted at the University of Maine (Orono campus) the first weekend in April.

But what does being on a swim team provide?

  • Ample opportunities to compete.

  • Lifelong lessons like patience, respect, safety, perseverance, and confidence.

  • Coming together with every YMCA swimmer at the State Meet in March (in order to be eligible to compete at States, swimmers MUST swim 3 meets throughout the season).

  • Fundraising activities such as Splash-a-thon, concessions, and decorating & selling holiday wreaths.

Interested to learn more but not ready to commit to joining the team? A free week is offered to new swimmers in October to see if joining the team is the right thing for you.

Requirements to be on the team:

  • Recognize that this is not a learn-to-swim program

  • Be at least 5 years of age

  • Pass deep water test

Swimmers must be Annual Members; Financial Assistance is available.
